How it all started…
Living in the Northern Spa town of Harrogate, I own and run the converted horse box coffee bar Bamber & Brown.
My husband and I have lived in our Victorian house for over 25 years. The house was built for the quarry which still lies in the grounds of the house but has been a lake for many years. During the 1930’s through to the 1970’s the dining room and front gardens of the house were used as tea rooms for the walkers on Birk Crag surrounding the land.
It has been my dream for all these years to bring back the cafe in some kind of format. Now our three children are at secondary school I thought was the ideal time to do it. Two of our children are on the autism spectrum and when they are old enough I am hoping they can help out and try to increase their confidence and life skills.
Our eldest works in the coffee bar with her friend, getting the family involved.
We now have the addition of a giant tipi with a gorgeous fire to keep business going through the winter months. Six months on and with nine members on the team, the business continues to grow and flourish.
