In the first of a new series, artists talk about the inspiration for a particular drawing. This week the architect Professor Alan Dunlop talks about his drawing of a school party visiting the Burrell Collection in Glasgow
This pencil drawing is from my pre-COVID sketchbook, as you can see from all the school children and their teachers
having their picnic lunch in the shade of the trees in the glorious surroundings of Pollok Country Park. To my mind these outings are far more inspirational than any lessons they will ever experience in school and what could be more inspirational than the Burrell, in my view the best post-war museum and gallery in the country.
Designed by Barry Gasson, John Meunier and Brit Andresen in 1971, it is closed at the moment for refurbishment, opening up again in March. I just pray that the practice charged with the work, John McAslan and Partners, has not messed it up!
