I was employed for a number of years at Redbrick Mill, a converted textile mill between Leeds & Huddersfield. It is the ‘North’s leading destination for interiors’ and retails cutting edge design in furniture and art.
When I was ready to branch out and open my own art gallery, Redbrick offered me a beautiful space. As an entry-level retailer, Redbrick’s business model allows you to grow as a new business in a supportive environment. In a market saturated with limited edition prints and published artists, I wanted my gallery to be focused on original art and independent artists. It takes time to build any business and this type of art gallery is new to Redbrick and so I am working hard to let people know I am here.
I am not an artist. My interest lies in appreciating art, finding artists and choosing a collection for Hope Gallery that will move people and make them feel something. Hence my business strapline, ‘It’s not what it looks like, it’s how it makes you feel’.
The name came from an artist who encouraged me to always have hope. Of course, it has been difficult and a huge learning curve, but I have always had hope. I have met some amazing people along the way who have helped me get to where I am now and I will be eternally grateful to those people.
